JCC volleyball
As mentioned, we covered the JCC football scheduled a couple weeks back and last time around we gave some details on the cross country schedule.
This week we’ll mention a few items about the volleyball schedule.
The schedule is much the same as recent years.
JCC opens its season at the Big South Conference Showcase in Fairmont on Saturday, Aug. 26. Tri-City United doesn’t join the conference until 2024, but the Titans will play in the Showcase for an even number of teams.
The home opener is Tuesday, Aug. 29 vs. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda. Big South Conference West Division play starts Tuesday, Sept. 5 at Redwood Valley.
For several years, the second full week of September has been a challenging one for Coach Deidre Wierson’s team and that continues this year.
During a five-day stretch the Huskies host matches against two traditional powers and the Carolyn Hummel Invitational.
Marshall comes in for a conference match on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
The Tigers have been in the state tournament the last five times it was held (there was no tournament in 2020) and 19 of the last 20. Marshall has won two straight Class 3A titles.
Since 2004, Coach Dan Westby has guided Marshall to nine state championships and four runner-up finishes.
On Thursday, Sept. 14 Sioux Falls Christian will visit for a nonconference match. The Chargers have won six straight South Dakota Class A (middle of three classes) state titles.
Eight teams will then compete in the Carolyn Hummel tourney on Saturday, Sept 16. Joining the host Huskies will be Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, Luverne, Red Rock Central, Triton, Westbrook-Walnut Grove, Windom and Worthington.
Jackson County Central plays in the Class AA Showcase at the Midwest Volleyball Warehouse in Burnsville on Sept. 22-23 and at the Todd Bachman Invitational at Lakeville North on Oct. 13-14.
The regular season finale is on Monday, Oct. 16 vs. Fairmont.
