There are a lot of topics covered this week. Here we go.
Jackson County Central High School junior Jack Sadusky is a forward with the Fairmont Area boys soccer team. He played a key role in the Cardinals’ 4-1 win over Cannon Falls Thursday at Jeffery Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont.
With the Cardinals leading 1-0, Sadusky scored on a penalty kick with 6:17 remaining in the first half. And he did it twice, although only the second one counted.
Sadusky kept his first penalty kick low and to the right of the Cannon Falls goalie for an apparent goal, only to have it taken off the board due to an infraction on Fairmont.
No worries, as Sadusky then peppered a mid-range shot past the goalie’s left side on his second attempt after using a stutter-step move on his approach to stake the Cardinals to a 2-0 lead.
“PKs (penalty kicks) are tough anyway because you step up there alone, looking in at the goalie and you’re saying to yourself, ‘Don’t miss,'” said Fairmont Area head coach Brady Meyer told the Fairmont Sentinel. “Anyone who can nail a second PK after the first one is nullified has my respect. That’s tough.”
Fairmont Area has a 6-6-1 record. The Cardinals have three regular-season games remaining, hosting Waseca Monday and Marshall Tuesday before playing at Worthington Thursday.

And now news about some area graduates.

Two area grads are on the men’s cross country team at Iowa Central Community College and were at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival in Fayetville, Ark., hosted by the University of Arkansas on Friday.

Alex is a sophomore forward and Zach is a freshman defenseman.
The Defenders are officially 1-0-3 to start the season.
Dordt has won the shootout in those three ties, but the ACHA does not recognize shootouts so they are officially listed as ties.
Official or not, Alex did have a shootout goal Friday that gave the Defenders the unofficial 2-1 win over Creighton University in Sioux Center.
Zach then had a goal and an assist Saturday’s 4-4 tie or 5-4 shootout win, however you choose to look at it.
Dordt opened its season last weekend in Texas and officially defeated Dallas Baptist University 5-3 and tied 4-4.
Zach has two goals and two assists for the season, while Alex has one assist.
The Defenders are on the road the next two weekends, playing two games at Omaha and then two at Hope College in Holland, Mich. Dordt’s next home game is Oct. 28 vs. Omaha.

Then the squad will make the first of three trips close to home for Musser before the end of 2022.
They’ll play St. Thomas at St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights on Friday, Oct. 14 and Bethel at Bethel University Arena at the National Sports Center in Blaine on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The U-18 team will have two games in Iowa in mid-December, playing at the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Friday, Dec. 16 and at the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Saturday, Dec. 17.
Cheerleader
Jackson County Central graduate Haley Tvinnereim is a captain for the South Dakota State cheerleading team. A junior at SDSU, Haley was also a captain last year.
Her dad, Eric and brother, Jacob were in Brookings Saturday to watch Haley cheer for the Jackrabbits football team to a 34-10 win over Western Illinois.
Mom, Barb, was in Jackson busy with JCC homecoming activities.
Jacob is a junior with the Augustana University wrestling team

Bulls donation
Jackson Bulls Manager Scott Bahr had a visitor last week as 1967 Jackson High School graduate Joe Anderson stopped by.
Anderson, who currently works security for the Texas Rangers, presented Bahr with a donation of two dozen Major League Baseballs.
Joe played second base and quarterback for the Blue Jays. He went on to Dakota Wesleyan to play.
It’s 224 days or 32 weeks until the Bulls open their 2023 season. Not that anyone is counting.
Danielle Honnette
Jackson County Central graduate Danielle Honnette is a physical therapist for the Minnesota Twins Florida Coast League team and Lee County Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Fla. That area was hit by Hurricane Ian this past week.
She put out this tweet:
She earned 12 athletic letters at JCC, three apiece in volleyball and softball and six in gymnastics.
Danielle played on two state championship softball teams and was a two-time first-team all-state selection.
She attended Baylor University and played softball for the Bears, including the 2007 team that had a 51-16 record and played in the College Women’s World Series in Oklahoma City.
It’s past time for me to stop thinking of Danielle as “Little Honnette” after her older sister Alyssa had a great career at JCC, but Shelly Hotzler is to blame for that.
