Jackson County Central graduate Rudy Voss (6-3, 205), a freshman quarterback at South Dakota State, scored his first career touchdown Saturday in the Jackrabbits’ 47-16 win at Youngstown State.

Hedquist records shutout
Hobie Hedquist of Heron Lake recorded a shutout as the Alberni Valley Bulldogs Junior A Hockey Club was a 1-0 shootout winner over the Vernon Vipers is a 1-0 British Columbia Hockey League win Saturday.
Hedquist made 26 saves in regulation and four more in the shootout as he notched his first BCHL shutout and was named First Star of the game.
In 307 minutes in five games this season the University of North Dakota commit has a 3-1-1 record with a save percentage of .913 and a goals-against average of 2.54.

Cross country
JCC grad Jessica Christoffer, a junior with the South Dakota State women’s cross country team, is a member of a Summit League championship team for the second time.
The Jackrabbits edged North Dakota State 55-56 for the team title at the conference championship meet in Tulsa Saturday.
Jessica finished 30th out if 75 runners in a 6k time of 23:02.70.
SDSU will compete in the NCAA Midwest Regionals on Friday, Nov. 12 in Iowa City.
Martin County West graduate Jake Lewis, a freshman at Iowa Central, is a member of the Tritons team that won the Region XI team title Friday in Waterloo.
Iowa Central was first with 25 points, with Iowa Western second with 34.
Lewis placed 34th out of 77 finishers with a time of 28:24.5.
The Tritons will run in the NJCAA Div. I Championships Nov. 13 in Richmond, Virginia. Iowa Central won the national title last year.
Volleyball
JCC graduate Alaina Wolff, a 5-6 freshman libero for NCAA Division II Wayne State College, had 12 digs and 2 assists Saturday in a 3-1 loss to No. 15 Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall. On Thursday she had 7 digs, 3 assists and 1 ace serve in a 3-1 home win over Augustana.
JCC grad Megan Gallagher is a 5-6 freshman setter at Bethany Lutheran College. She had a double-double of 36 assists and 10 digs as well as 2 kills and 2 BA Saturday in a 3-1 loss to NCAA Division III Northwestern-St. Paul. On Tuesday she posted 30 assists, 3 digs, 3 kills and 1 ace in a 3-0 win over Crown College.
Jackson County Central graduate Molly Brinkman, a 5-5 senior defensive specialist at Mount Marty College, had 6 digs and 3 assists in a 3-0 loss to Dakota State Tuesday and 3 digs and 1 assist in a 3-0 loss at No. 15 Dakota Wesleyan Saturday.
DWU, coached by Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield grad Lindsey Wilber, plays at No. 1 Jamestown Tuesday.
Women’s soccer
Three Fairmont grads are on the Bethany Lutheran women’s soccer team, which won 5-0 at Minnesota-Morris on Monday, tied 0-0 at Northwestern-St. Paul Wednesday and won 5-2 at North Central Saturday.
Sophomore Lexi Kaufman scored two goals at Morris and had a goal and an assist vs. North Central.
Sophomore McKayla Chambers played 72 minutes vs. Morris and 37 minutes vs. North Central, with senior Mikayla Stradtman playing 40 and 28 minutes,
The Vikings (13-5-1) are the No. 3 seed for the UMAC Playoffs and play at No. 2 Northwestern Wednesday.
