Carsen Musser and the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 team is in Finland for its international break.
The U18s will play in a Four Nations Tournament in Finland, with the team’s first game against Sweden.
It’s the second international tournament of the season for the team, which went undefeated at the Five Nations Tournament in November at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich.
They’ll play in a third tournament as they compete in the International Ice Hockey Federation Under-18 Men’s World Championship in Switzerland in April.
The Sherburn native has played in 18 games for the U18s and has an 11-4 record. He’s played 931 minutes and 19 seconds and has a save percentage of .898 and a goals-against average of 2.96.
The U18s have posted a 7-1 record in their last eight games dating back to Feb. 2. In addition, the squad has won 14 games against NCAA opponents this season, which set a record for the most wins of any NTDP birth year.
Men’s wrestling
Martin County West graduate Blake Jagodzinske won his fourth straight tournament and increased his winning streak to 18 matches by going 5-0 and winning the 157-pound title at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Don Parker Open.
Jagodzinske, now 31-4, earned a 4-0 win over North Dakota State’s Mason Gode in the semifinals and then edged Wisconsin’s Cody Goebel 7-6 in the finals.
Jackson County Central grad Kie Anderson, a freshman at Concordia University, won by fall at 125 pounds for the Cobbers in their 50-0 win over the University of Jamestown.
He then wrestled in the Don Parker Open at Eau Claire and recorded his fifth pin of the season in the first round. Anderson then lost a 7-6 decision in the quarterfinals before medical forfeiting in the wrestlebacks.
JCC grad Payton Handevidt won four matches, three by falls in winning the Open 157-pound title at the Dave Edmonds Invitational in Sioux City.
He won by fall in 2:46 over Kale Corley of Dickinson State, by fall in 2:46 over Charles Hutson of Concordia, Neb., an 8-0 major decision over Morningside’s Abraham Dirkx and by fall in 2:27 over Raymond Aranda III of Midland.
Jackson County Central graduate Jacob Tvinnereim was 1-1 in a pair of duals for Augustana. He lost vs. University of Mary and won an 11-3 major decision vs. Minnesota State.
MCW grad Miles Fitzgerald went 1-1, with his win coming in sudden-victory overtime.
Two more Martin County West graduates, Jaxson Rohman and Payton Anderson, were 0-1.
JCC grad Keegan Moore split two matches for Oklahoma in home duals.
He lost a 4-3 decision in the Sooners’ 33-8 loss to Missouri and won by that same 4-3 score in OU’s 24-10 win over Rider.
Women’s wrestling
MCW grad Katie Lange, a sophomore at Augsburg University, won the 143-pound title at the Grand View University Open in Des Moines.
Lange, ranked fourth in the NCAA, claimed three technical falls among her four victories, outscoring her opponents by a 42-9 margin.
Lange won a 12-0 technical fall over No. 10 Liv Wieber of Eastern Oregon, then edged No. 2 Emile Se of Southern Oregon. In the finals, she scored a 14-4, 4:49 technical fall of No. 7 Josette Partney of Missouri Baptist.
Lange is now 24-6 on the season with seven pins and 12 technical falls.
Martin County West graduate Alyssa Williamson, a 5-6 senior guard at Hamline University, had 10 points, a team-leading five assists and four steals in a 71-41 in a 77-58 win over Saint Benedict on Saturday.
Before that, she had eight points, seven rebounds and two steals in a 71-41 win over Bethel.
The Pipers are 15-6 overall, 12-6 in the MIAC.
Women’s track and field
JCC graduate Olivia Anderson, a freshman at Minnesota State, had an indoor PR at the Ted Nelson Classic in Mankato with a time of 5:48.17. The top-ranked Mavericks won the team title.
Fairmont graduate Alli Lardy, a senior at North Dakota, placed in two events at the Bison Open in Fargo.
She was third in the weight throw (57-5) and fifth in shot put (44-9 ½).
Volleyball
Jackson County Central graduate Alicia Brandt, a 6-foot MB, has been named the Most Improved Player for the Waldorf University volleyball team.
Brandt played in 33 sets last season for the Warriors and totaled 52 kills and 26 blocks (4 BS and 22 BA).
The Warriors had an 11-13 record.
