Jackson County Central graduate Sadie Voss, a 5-foot-9 junior outside hitter at the University of Sioux Falls, had a monster match for the Cougars in a 3-2 loss at No. 7 Wayne State Friday.
She had 20 kills, 24 digs, and two service aces for USF, now 12-8 overall and 7-5 in the NSIC. The Cougars host Winona State Thursday and are at Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday.

JCC grad Alaina Wolff, a 5-9 senior defensive specialist at the University of South Dakota, went over the 1,000 dig mark for her college career with nine in the Coyotes’ 3-1 win over Denver Thursday. She played one season at Wayne State and is in her third at USD.
Wolff followed that with 10 digs, two service aces and one set assist in a 3-1 win at Kansas City Saturday. South Dakota is 15-6 overall and 7-3 in the Summit League. The Coyotes host North Dakota Thursday and Oral Roberts Saturday.
JCC graduate Alicia Brandt, a 6-foot senior middle blocker at Waldorf, had one kills and two digs for the Warriors in a 3-2 loss at Dakota Wesleyan and then had five kills and seven blocks in a 3-2 loss at Dordt.
Waldorf, 10-12 overall and 4-9 in the GPAC, hosts Northwestern Wednesday and is at Briar Cliff Saturday.

Two local graduates competed in the NSIC Cross Country Championships Saturday in Minot.
In the men’s race, Jackson County Central graduate Andrew Boyum placed 86th out of 133 runners in the men’s race with an 8K personal record of 26:24.1. That was 1:02.7 better than his race in Illinois two weeks earlier.
Fairmont grad Laura Thompson placed 31st out of 144 runners in the women’s event with a 6K time of 22:18.1 for team champion Augustana.
JCC graduate Evan Paplow, a freshman at Iowa Central Community College, was a scoring runner for the Tritons at the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference meet in Ottumwa, Iowa on Friday.
Paplow was fifth for ICCC and 18th overall out of 38 runners with an 8K time of 26:25.80. Iowa Western was first with 18 points and Iowa Central was second with 43.

Martin County West grad Max Olson, a 6-3, 253-pound sophomore defensive lineman at Gustavus, made four tackles, 1.5 for a loss in the Gusties’ loss at No. 3 St. John’s. He had a sack for a five-yard loss and also blocked an extra point attempt.
Gustavus, 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the MIAC Northwood Division, hosts St. Olaf Saturday.
Jackson County Central graduate Pat Garvin is starting his fifth season as head coach of the Bethany Lutheran College men’s basketball team. The Vikings have been picked to win the conference title by the coaches in the UMAC.
Last season, BLC went 24-4 overall, won the conference regular season title with a 14-0 record and also won the UMAC postseason tournament.
