There have been a few interruptions the past couple of days, but I finally have time for a condensed version of Lots O’ Stuff.
Let’s get right into it.
There were two instances last weekend where there was a Jackson County Central graduate involved with each team competing on a college volleyball court.
In Sioux City, Emma Haren and Morningside University were a 3-2 winner over Alicia Brandt and Waldorf University in a GPAC match.

Haren had 12 kills and three digs while Brandt had five blocks and two digs. At least one other JCC graduate was in the gym as Megan Gallagher was in attendance.
At Vermillion, JCC graduate Alaina Wolff had 10 digs for South Dakota in a 3-2 win over Iowa State. Michelle (Van Epps) Aggen is Director of Volleyball Operations for the Cyclones.
Sadie Voss, a JCC grad who is a 5-9 junior outside hitter with the University of Sioux Falls, put up some big numbers for the Cougars at the Black Hills State tournament in Spearfish.
On Friday she had four kills and three ace serves vs. Eastern New Mexico and seven kills and eight digs vs. Montana State-Billings.
Martin County West graduate Hunter Schmidt, a freshman at Mid American Nazarene University, was 44th out 76 golfers at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars.
He had rounds of 77, 72 and 76 for a 12-over 225.
Hayden Hedquist update
Heron Lake native Hayden Hedquist is in Texas playing with the Amarillo Wranglers of the North American Hockey League. A defenseman, Hayden has been with the Sioux Falls Power for five seasons, moving up through the ranks of 14U, 16U and 18U.
There are 35 teams in the NAHL, divided into four divisions.
Amarillo leads the Southern Division after the first weekend as it opened its season with two one-goal wins (2-1 and 3-2) over the Oklahoma Warriors in Oklahoma City.
The Wranglers play two vs. the Colorado Grit in Greeley this weekend before playing at the NAHL Showcase at the National Sports Center in Blaine Sept. 26-28, facing the Maryland Black Bears, New Hampshire Mountain Kings and Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
Boys basketball poll
There’s a lot of football left to be played at Jackson County Central but the folks at Prephoops.com are all about basketball and they recently conducted a poll asking who will win the Class AA state boys basketball title in the 2024-25 season.
They picked who they consider to be the team to beat in each section and those were the eight choices in the poll.
Here are the results with the number of votes and the percentage.
Southwest Christian 73 23%
Albany 68 22%
Breck 55 18%
Jackson County Central 42 13%
Caledonia 35 11%
Annandale 12 3%
Waseca 11 3%
Pequot Lakes 9 2%
The scheduled season opener for coach Alex Hein’s team is Tuesday, Dec. 3 at Blue Earth Area. Can’t wait!
A visual entry this week. Punctuation can be very important.
