Two former Jackson County Central girls track and field standouts competed at the Minnesota State University Open track and field meet Saturday in Mankato.
Peyton Hanson, a freshman at the University of Sioux Falls, was in two events.
She placed seventh out of 32 entries in the pole vault, clearing 10-10 ¾. Also, Hanson was 11th of 18 athletes in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.81.
Olivia Anderson, a sophomore at Minnesota State, was 20th out of 40 runners in the 1500 meters in 5:24.39.
JCC graduate Andrew Boyum, a sophomore at Iowa Central Community College, ran in the 5000 meters at the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays in Warrensburg. He placed 42nd out of 56 runners in his section with a time of 15:52.08.
Fairmont grad Andrew Moeller, a senior at South Dakota State, had an 800-meter time of 1:58.32 as he placed fourth in his heat and 14th overall at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.
Jackson County Central graduate Gavin Jacobsen was the winning pitcher as the Bethany Lutheran College baseball team was a 17-8 winner over Crown College in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday in St. Bonifacius. In the second game, the Vikings scored seven runs in the ninth inning to win 11-10.
The sophomore went six innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits, walking one and striking out 12.
He is now 3-1 on the season with a 2.66 earned run average. In 24 innings he has allowed 14 runs (nine earned) on 23 hits, walking 14 and fanning 43.
Bethany is 12-0 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and 14-7 overall.
The Vikings are scheduled to host Macalaster in a nonconference doubleheader Thursday at ISG Field in Mankato and have a three-game home conference series vs. University of Northwestern, playing one Friday and two Saturday.
Fairmont grad Eli Anderson, a sophomore at North Iowa Area Community College, leads the Trojans in hitting with a .363 average. He has 53 hits in 146 at bats with 11 doubles, three triples and two home runs. He’s walked 12 times and has been hit by a pitch twice for a .414 on base percentage.
NIACC is 14-25 overall including 6-13 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. The Trojans play a single game at Kirkwood Thursday and host Marshalltown for three games over the weekend.
JCC graduate Brittany Tufvesson, a freshman at Iowa Central Community College, has seen action in eight games for the Tritons and is 4-for-6 for a .667 average. She’s also walked twice and has a stolen base.
ICCC is 29-13 overall, 12-4 in the ICCAC. The Tritons haver a stretch of four doubleheaders in five days scheduled, playing at Northeast Wednesday, hosting Southwestern Thursday and NIACC Saturday and playing at Kirkwood Sunday.
JCC graduate Jayni (Schroeder) Anderson is co-head coach at Tri-Valley High School in Colton, S.D.
The Mustangs are 3-1 to start the season after going 1-16 in 2023. Their wins have been by scores of 17-2, 18-3 and 16-0.
Tri-Valley has three games scheduled this week, facing West Central in Hartford on Tuesday, hosting Dell Rapids Thursday and visiting Vermillion Friday.
Fairmont graduate Bergen Senf tied for fifth place out of 63 golfers at the Gustie Spring Invite on Saturday and Sunday at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings. She had rounds of 80 and 79 to record her second top-five finish of the season and the eighth of her career.
The Oles were fourth of 11 teams.
First year Solveig Senf is a first-year player on the St. Olaf roster.
The Oles continue their spring schedule at the Rumble at the Ridge on Oneka Ridge in White Bear Lake next weekend.
Jackson County Central grad Kie Anderson was the winner of the Ben Bogart Resilience Award with the Concordia College wrestling team.
Anderson returned to the Cobbers’ lineup from an injury in January and compiled a 9-5 record with seven pins and one technical fall. He placed seventh in the NCAA Division III Upper Midwest Regional.
