MSU meet
Several area graduates were in Mankato for the Ted Nelson Classic indoor track and field meet hosted by Minnesota State at Myers Fieldhouse.
Jackson County Central graduate Molly Boyum, a junior at Augustana, placed third out of 16 competitors in the 800 meters with a time of 2:23.61.
That was close to her PR and Mom approved.
Earlier this week, Molly was named a Strength & Conditioning Student-Athlete of the Month at Augustana.
Another JCC grad, Jordan Hassing, is a freshman at Augustana. He placed eighth of 16 athletes in the long jump with an effort of 20-11 ¼.
Martin County West graduate Jake Lewis, a freshman at Iowa Central, was 24th out of 28 runners in the mile with a 5:08.14 clocking.
Fairmont graduate Sabrina Segar, a freshman at Minnesota-Duluth, was 17th in the pole vault (8-8 ¾).
Another Fairmont grad, Illiana Ramon, is a senior at Gustavus. She didn’t compete, but she was in Mankato Saturday.
Bison Open
Fairmont graduate Allison Lardy, a senior with the North Dakota women’s track and field team, placed in two events at the Bison Open in Fargo.
She was fifth in the weight throw (56-10 ¼) and sixth in the shot put (44- ¾)
The Fighting Hawks are at the SDSU Classic in Brookings next weekend.
USD meet
Fairmont graduate Conner Tordsen, a senior at Dakota State, has qualified for the weight throw at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Brookings next month. He improved his automatic qualifying mark in that event at the USD Alumni Meet at the DakotaDome in Vermillion.
He placed seventh in the weight throw with a distance of 56-5 ¾. That mark is the 18th best toss in the NAIA and the third best in DSU school history.
Tordsen was also ninth in the shot put with an effort of 45-4 ¼.
Wrestling
Jackson County Central graduate Keegan Moore, a redshirt senior at Oklahoma, split his matches at 184 pounds for the Sooners this weekend.
On Friday, he won by fall in 6:09 in OU’s 37-3 win over Little Rock and on Sunday Moore lost 4-3 but the Sooners won 16-15 over South Dakota State on Senior Day.
Keegan's parents, Jay and Rhonda Moore, were in attendance.
Oklahoma is off from competition until wrestling at Oklahoma State on Feb. 20.
Two Martin County West grads were in the lineup for NCAA Division II Augustana on its weekend trip to North Dakota.
Saturday at Minot State, 125-pound fourth-ranked Jaxson Rohman lost a 4-2 decision while Miles Fitzgerald won 8-3 as the Vikings won the dual over the Beavers 27-12.
On Sunday in Bismarck, Rohman won 6-2 and Fitzgerald won 3-2 in overtime as Augustana defeated No. 20 University of Mary 26-7.
Rohman has a 12-1 record, while Fitzgerald is 16-3. The Vikings (7-3) host Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday.
Another MCW grad Blake Jagodzinske, a freshman at Augsburg, placed fifth at 157 pounds in the Gold Division of the Don Parker Open in Eau Claire.
After a first-round bye, Jagodzinske won two matches by identical 7-2 decisions before losing 7-5. After another loss, he won 17-10 in the fifth-place match.
Jagodzinske has a 13-5 record with three pins.
Women’s basketball
Hanna Geistfeld of Truman, a 6-foot senior at Bethany Lutheran, had back-to-back double doubles this weekend to bring her total for the season to 15.
On Friday, she tied her own single-game scoring record at Bethany with 38 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in a 75-40 win over Northland Colleg.
She followed that on Saturday by going over 1,000 career rebounds with 12 and scored 37 points in a 78-71 victory over Wisconsin-Superior.
Also, Geistfeld has been selected for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association ‘So You Want To Be A Coach’ program.
She will participate in the two-day workshop on March 31-April 1 during the WBCA Convention in Minneapolis.
The program increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions, increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women's basketball.
The Vikings are 15-6 overall and are undefeated in the UMA Conference with a 10-0 record. BLC is at home again twice next weekend, hosting Crown College at 5:30 p.m. Friday and Minnesota-Morris at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Alyssa Williamson is a 5-6 junior at Hamline University.
On Wednesday, she had nine points, three rebounds and one assist in a 61-35 win over St. Scholastica at Hutton Arena. Then on Saturday Alyssa recorded seven points and one rebound in a 66-61 win over Concordia in Moorhead.
The Pipers are 15-4 overall and second in the MIAC with a 13-3 record. They’ll host St. Benedict Monday, play at Carleton Wednesday and then are home vs. St. Catherine Saturday.
5 straight wins
JCC graduate Pat Garvin’s Bethany Lutheran College men’s basketball team won home games both Friday and Saturday, beating Northland College 106-71 and Wisconsin-Superior 79-66 Saturday.

The Vikings have won five straight and are 11-9 overall, 7-3 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
BLC and Crown College are tied for second in the UMAC at 7-3, two games behind 9-1 Northwestern.
Bethany has home games vs. Crown at 7:15 p.m. Friday and Minnesota-Morris at 4:45 p.m. Saturday. The Vikings are at Northwestern and North Central the following weekend before the UMAC tournament opens on Feb. 22.
