This week we update you on some Martin County West graduates competing in college and check in on a former Jackson County Central girls basketball coach.
Martin County West graduate Katie Lange is off to a great start in her freshman season with the Augsburg University women’s wrestling team.
She has an 11-0 record with five wins coming by fall and five by technical fall.
Lange has won the 143-pound title in three tournaments, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Waldorf and North Central, Ill. She also won a match in a dual vs. Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Auggies are idle from competition until the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships at Northwestern University on Dec. 29-30.
Two MCW grads won their matches for Augustana University in a dual vs. Minnesota State Sunday afternoon in Mankato.
Jaxson Rohman won a 7-5 decision at 125 pounds and Miles Fitzgerald won 6-2 at 165.
Rohman has an 8-1 record that includes a tournament title at the Jimmie Open at Jamestown, N.D. Fitzgerald is 10-6 and also won his weight at Jamestown and was second at the DWU Open in Mitchell.
Three other Martin County West graduates are on the Augustana roster. Payton Anderson has a 7-6 record, Connor Simmonds is 12-4 and Nathan Simmonds is 5-6.
Also, Jackson County Central grad Jacob Tvinnereim is 4-4.
Alyssa Williamson
Martin County West graduate Alyssa Williamson is a 5-foot-6 junior guard with the Hamline University women’s basketball team.
She’s started all eight games and is averaging 4.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Williamson also has 10 assists and eight steals.
The Pipers are 6-2 overall, 5-1 in the MIAC. Hamline’s next game is against Buena Vista on Thursday, Dec. 30 in Storm Lake.
Chris Aggen
Former Jackson County Central girls basketball coach Chris Aggen is in his first season as head coach at Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
The Rough Riders are 0-3 to start the season, with two of those losses to Top Five teams in No. 2 Sioux Falls O’ Gorman and No. 3 Brandon Valley.
Roosevelt, which has also lost to Sioux Falls Jefferson, is off until hosting No. 5 Harrisburg on Thursday, Dec. 30.
