Volleyball
Jackson County Central graduate Alaina Wolff is a junior defensive specialist with the University of South Dakota volleyball team, which won Summit League matches in Vermillion Thursday and Saturday to put its overall record at 18-2, 7-1 in conference play.
She had 12 digs, was 6-8 serving with 1 ace and had 2 set assists for South Dakota in a 3-0 win over Oral Roberts Thursday. On Saturday vs. Kansas City she posted five digs and one service ace in a 3-0 win over the Kangaroos.
The Coyotes are at Denver this Thursday and Omaha Saturday.

JCC grad Sadie Voss is a freshman outside hitter at the University of Sioux Falls, which split a pair of NSIC matches this weekend.
Voss had 11 kills, 7 digs and 5 blocks in a 3-1 loss to Northern State Friday and then had 12 kills, 15 digs and four ace serves in a 3-0 win over Minnesota State Moorhead Saturday.
The Cougars, 12-8 overall and 8-5 in the conference, are at No. 1 Wayne State Thursday and host Augustana Saturday.
JCC graduate Georgianna Wenzel, a freshman right side hitter at Briar Cliff, had three blocks for the Chargers on Wednesday. Briar Cliff plays at Mayville State Monday and hosts Dakota Wesleyan Wednesday.
Wesleyan is coached by Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield grad Lindsay Wilber. The Tigers are 18-4 overall and 8-3 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference and ranked 10th in the country in last week’s NAIA poll.
Jackson County Central graduate Alicia Brandt is a sophomore middle blocker at Waldorf University. She had a kill for the Warriors in a 3-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan.
Waldorf is 9-8 overall and 1-7 in the North Star Athletic Association. The Warriors host Presentation Thursday and Mayville State Friday.
Football
Two JCC graduates are freshmen with the St. Olaf College football team, which lost 49-10 at home to No. 5 St. John’s Saturday.
Will Freking had a solo tackle for a loss and had a quarterback hurry for the Oles defense. Trace Michelson saw time on the offensive line.
St. Olaf is at St. Scholastica next week.
Cross country
JCC grad Andrew Boyum and Martin County West graduate Jake Lewis ran for Iowa Lakes Community College at the Jim Drews Invitational at West Salem, Wis.
Boyum, a freshman, finished 210th out of 424 finishers with an 8K time of 27:58.7 and Lewis, a sophomore, was 217th in 28:02.8.
Fairmont graduate Hannah Neusch, a sophomore at South Dakota State, had a PR at the Bradley University Pink Classic in Peoria, Ill. She had a 6K time of 24:30 to finish 76th out of 190 runners.
The Jackrabbits were third in the team standings behind Grand Valley and Loyola.
Hockey
Two Windom Area grads are playing on the Dordt University club men’s hockey team, which plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
Alex Espenson is a sophomore forward for the Defenders and Zach Espenson is a freshman defenseman.
Zach is first on the team in assists with eight and has three goals for a team-leading 11 points. Alex has one goal and three assists for four points.
Dordt is 6-2 overall, 2-0 in conference play.
The Defenders are off until hosting Omaha on Oct. 28.
New York Rangers defenseman K'Andre Miller had an assist in NY's 7-3 win over the Minnesota Wild Thursday in St. Paul. His plus-minus that night was +4.
Through three games for the 2-1 Rangers his plus-minus is +5. His average time on ice of 22:16 is third-most for the Rangers.
Miller is the son of 1988 Fairmont High School graduate Amy Sokoloski. New York starts a stretch of four straight home games at Madison Square Garden Monday vs. the Anaheim Ducks.
Boys soccer
Jackson County Central junior Jack Sadusky had an assist for the fifth-seeded Fairmont Area boys soccer team as it beat fourth-seeded Tri-City United 3-1 in the Section 2A tournament in Montgomery Thursday.
The Cardinals then lost 1-nil at top-seeded Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa Saturday to finish the season with a 8-9-1 record.
