Hobie Hedquist of Heron Lake started in goal and got the win for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the British Columbia Hockey League Saturday night.
Hedquist made 30 saves on 35 shots as Alberni Valley edged the the Cowichan Valley Capitals 6-5 in a Thanksgiving Saturday game at Cowichan Community Centre in Duncan, B.C.
The University of North Dakota commit made 10 saves in the first period, 8 in the second and 12 in the final frame.
The Bulldogs had a 5-1 lead in the second period and led 6-3 in the third.
Alberni Valley, 1-1, opens its home schedule next weekend at Weyerhauser Arena in Port Alberni with games vs. the Victoria Grizzlies and Cowichan Valley.

Jackson County Central graduate Alaina Wolff is a 5-foot-6 freshman libero at Wayne State, which won twice at home this weekend.
She had 13 digs and two set assists in a 3-0 win over Northern State Friday and then led Wayne with 16 digs and three set assists 3-0 win over Minnesota State Moorhead Saturday.
The Wildcats, tied for sixth in the latest AVCA Division II poll, are now 14-2.
JCC grad Megan Gallagher is a 5-6 freshman setter at Bethany Lutheran College.
On Tuesday, she had 13 assists, five digs and a service ace in a loss to Buena Vista in Storm Lake; Friday she had 27 assists, nine digs and two aces in a loss to Minnesota-Morris; and then on Saturday she had 34 assists, three kills, three digs and one set assist in a 3-0 win over Crown College.
Jackson County Central graduate Molly Brinkman is a 5-5 senior defensive specialist at Mount Marty. She led MMC in digs with 11 in a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Jamestown Saturday.
Another JCC grad, Alicia Brandt, is a 6-foot middle blocker at Waldorf. She played two sets for the Warriors in a loss at Bellevue Saturday.
Two Martin County West grads are freshman at Minnesota West.
In the latest stats posted by the school, Emily Dunlop has 49 solo blocks, 46 kills and 16 digs in 47 sets. Katie Hummel has 11 set assists and five kills in three sets.
Football
Two local graduates play football at Dakota State.
JCC grad Nico Feroni is a senior linebacker. He made four solo tackles Saturday for the Trojans in a 34-14 loss at Dickinson State.
Fairmont graduate Connor Tordsen, a senior defensive end, had three tackles including two tackles for a loss (6 yards) and one sack (5 yards).
Another Fairmont graduate, Caden Baarts, is a 6-3, 215-pound freshman linebacker at Concordia, St. Paul. He had one tackle in a loss to Bemidji State at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul.
Women's soccer
Three Fairmont graduates are members of the Bethany Lutheran College women's soccer team that has a 7-4 record after shutting out Crown College 3-0 Saturday.
Lexi Kaufman had two shots on goal for the Vikings.
McKayla Chambers is also a starter for Bethany and Mikayla Stradtman entered the game as a substitute.
Swimming and diving
Hailey Handevidt is a junior with the Augustana women's swimming and diving team, which opened its season with dual meets Friday and Saturday.
On Friday in a 178-116 loss at South Dakota State, Hailey was third in 1-meter diving, third in 3-meter diving, 12th in the 50 free and on the 400 free relay team that placed 7th.
Augustana lost 178-120 at St. Thomas Saturday, with Handevidt fourth in 1-meter diving, fourth in 3-meter diving, 15th in the 100 butterfly and was on the 200 free relay team.
Men's hockey
Fairmont graduate Carson Kuhl is a sophomore forward with the Waldorf University men's hockey team, which plays in the American Collegiate Hockey Association.
Kuhl had two assists Friday in the Warriors 6-3 win over Northern Illinois at their home rink, the Albert Lea City Arena.
Last week, he scored a goal for Waldorf in a 5-3 loss at No. 24 Oklahoma.
The Warriors have three home games in Albert Lea next weekend as they host Bethel University Friday and Dakota College at Bottineau Saturday and Sunday.
