Jackson County Central graduate Jessica Christoffer concluded her junior season with the South Dakota State women’s cross country team at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Iowa City.
She placed 114th out of 225 runners with a 6K time of 22:31.25.
As a team, the Jackrabbits were 13th of 32 teams.
Football
Two local grads played their final football games for Dakota State.
JCC graduate Nico Feroni (6-0, 190), a linebacker, had one tackle in the Trojans 16-14 win over Presentation College Saturday.
Fairmont grad Connor Tordsen (6-4, 245), a defensive end, had five tackles including two for a loss of two yards.
Jackson County Central graduate Rudy Voss (6-3, 205), a redshirt freshman quarterback at South Dakota State, had two rushes for five yards in a 23-20 loss at South Dakota.
The Jackrabbits (7-3) host North Dakota in their final regular-season game Saturday.
Wrestling
Martin County West graduate Katie Lange, a freshman with the Augsburg University women’s wrestling team, won the 143-pound title at the Waldorf Open Saturday. She went 4-0, winning each match by a technical fall including three shutouts.
MCW grad Blake Jagodzinske, a freshman with the Augsburg men’s wrestling team, went 4-1 and placed third at 157 at the Luther Open.
Several former area wrestlers competed for Augustana University at the Dakota Wesleyan Open in Mitchell.
Four former Martin County Red Bulls wrestled.
Miles Fitzgerald placed second at 165 pounds. After a first-round bye he won three matches before losing a 3-2 decision in the finals.
Also, Connor Simmonds was 4-2 at 149, Payton Anderson 2-2 at 157 and Nathan Simmonds 1-2 at 174.
JCC graduate Jacob Tvinnereim went 3-2 at 165.
Hockey
Hobie Hedquist of Heron Lake took a couple of road losses this week for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the British Columbia Hockey League.
He made 30 saves in a 2-1 loss vs. the Penticton Vees last Wednesday. He was named the Second Star of the Game for his efforts.
Hedquist had entered that game with three consecutive shutouts and hadn’t allowed a goal in 11 periods overall.
On Friday, he again had 30 saves, this time against the Trail Smoke Eaters.
Hedquist is first in the BCHL in shutouts (3), first in goals-against average (1.96) and third in save percentage (.933).
Volleyball
Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield graduate Lindsay Wilber’s Dakota Wesleyan volleyball team has qualified for the NAIA Volleyball Championships. It’s the school’s first national tourney berth since 1990.
The Tigers (23-9) will host Saint Xavier, Ill. in the opening round at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Corn Palace in Mitchell.
She’s the daughter of Tub and Amy Voss of Jackson.
