Here’s a condensed Lots O’ Stuff after several days of grandkids visiting and staying overnight, church programs and more. So happy we’re able to do it though.
In this edition, we have info about this past weekend’s all-star boys basketball games, a Sherburn grad wins an award and only one college update.
All-Star basketball
Martin County West senior Zach Anderson played in the 41st annual Minnesota High School All-Star Basketball Series on Saturday at Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Coon Rapids.
He was on the Blue team, one of four 10-man squads that participated.
His coaches for the event were familiar faces, his dad, Cliff, the Mavericks’ coach; and MCW assistant coach Phillip Rotunda.
The Blue team won its first game over the Green team 87-86 and then lost 119-111 to the Maroon team.
Zach, who is headed to Wayne State of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, scored nine points vs. Maroon.
Sherburn grad receives award
A Sherburn High School graduate has been named as winner of a prestigious award.
Brad Skogerboe, who is in his 15th year as Athletics Director at New Prague High School, was named the Class AA winner of the Pete Veldman Activities Administrator of the Year by the Minnesota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association.
The award is named in honor of former South St. Paul Activities Director Pete Veldman.
“I am extremely grateful to my family for allowing me to serve as an Activities Director,” said Skogerboe, a 1987 Sherburn High School grad.
“In our profession, we are gone a lot and it definitely takes the support of your family to make it work. On numerous occasions my wife and-or mother-in-law have sold tickets, one of my sons ran a scoreboard, and the other might run a scoreboard or do the announcing at an event. I have appreciated all their help and support over the years.”
College update
Just one update on a college athlete in this edition. Hopefully will be many more in the next episode.
Jackson County Central graduate Gavin Jacobsen, a sophomore at Bethany Lutheran College, got the start and was not involved in the decision in the Vikings’ 11-10, 12-inning loss to Minnesota-Morris Monday at ISG Field in Mankato.
He went 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, walking two and striking out six.
As I said, the plan is to get back to the full complement of updates next time around.
