Lots O’ Stuff
Welcome new subscribers; some college updates
First in this edition of Lots O’ Stuff is a bit of a personal note.
Welcome to those of you who are new here. I picked up quite a few new subscribers yesterday (Sunday) and today (Monday).
I hope you enjoy what I send your way. It’s mostly going to be sports but occasionally we’ll veer into other topics. If there’s ever anything you’d like to see, contact me at sportsdr44@hotmail.com.
Regarding Lots O’ Stuff, this started as a place to present information on area graduates competing on the collegiate level and in some cases, beyond. Sometimes we’ll touch on other topics here as well. We try to stay flexible around here. And to this point at least, you have to admit that the cost of this is easy on the wallet.
Again, if there is someone you’d like to see mentioned, let me know. Some schools are better than others at getting their websites updated to start the new school year.
A little side note: Don’t take the product sponsors too seriously.
Side note, part deu: We try to finish on a lighter note each time.
Now let’s get to it.
This week there are just a few highlights from area high school graduates this time around. Schedules in all sports get going in full gear next week.
Jackson County Central graduate Emma Haren is a freshman outside hitter for the Morningside University volleyball team, which is 7-1 to start the season after losing only one set in winning four matches in Bellevue, Neb.
Haren had 21 kills in those matches, recording six kills in a match twice. She now has 40 kills in 27 sets, an average of 1.48 per set. Morningside has a match at Dakota State Wednesday and then plays four matches at United Sports Academy in North Sioux City, S.D. Friday and Saturday.
JCC grad Alicia Brandt is a 6-foot senior middle blocker for Waldorf, which won twice at Peru State Saturday. She had four kills, four digs and two blocks in a 3-2 win over the host team and eight kills and five blocks in a 3-1 win over Bethany (Kan.).
The Warriors are 3-2 and play four matches at William Penn next weekend.
JCC graduate Michelle (Van Epps) Aggen is in her second season as the director of operations at Iowa State, which played an exhibition match vs. Minnesota at Maturi Pavilion on Saturday. She assists with team travel, community outreach and facility and camp coordination.
The Cyclones play at the UNLV Invite this weekend, facing Pacific Friday and the host Rebels Saturday.
New gig
Jackson County Central graduate Nate Reed has a new gig as he is the High School Band Director at Big South Conference newcomer Tri-City United. He also graduated from Minnesota State University.
Don’t know if the band will be playing that night, but JCC does have a boy-girl basketball doubleheader at TCU on Friday, Dec. 13.
Football tailgate
There will be a tailgate meal prior to Martin County West’s football opener vs. Canby Friday in Sherburn.
The St. John’s Lutheran of Sherburn youth will be serving BBQ, chips, water and a cookie from 5-7 p.m. To-go containers will be available.
These kids are in their mid 20s now, but this was kind of cool.
