This week’s Lots O’ Stuff is all news about area graduates.
Men’s wrestling
Jackson County Central graduate Kie Anderson, a freshman at Concordia College, placed fifth at 125 pounds at the Pete Willson Wheaton Invitational in Wheaton, Ill.
On Friday Anderson won a 10-2 major decision over Jack Reina of Augustana (Ill.), by fall in 4:02 over Mac Cafurello of Roanoke and was a 9-2 winner over Cody Merwin of Cortland State.
Kie started Saturday with a 10-3 loss to Zac Blasioli of Millikin University in the semifinals.
He then lost to Jack Stanley of Mount Union in the consolation semifinals before winning by medical forfeit in the fifth-place match.
Two Martin County West grads and one each from JCC and Windom wrestled for Augustana in its 45-3 home win over Dakota Wesleyan Friday in Sioux Falls.
MCW grad Miles Fitzgerald, ranked 10th at 157 pounds in the latest ratings by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, was a 15-4 major decision winner. Another former Martin County Red Bull, Payton Anderson, lost a decision at 165.
JCC grad Jacob Tvinnereim won by forfeit at 174 and Windom graduate Kade Sammons won 7-5 at 141.
On Sunday, fifth-ranked Jaxson Rohman, an MCW grad, was back in the lineup and received a forfeit.
Sammons won 9-4 and 141, Fitzgerald won 3-2 at 157, Anderson lost 4-2 at 165 and Tvinnereim won by fall at 174.
Augustana returns to Elmen Center Friday to host the University of Mary. Jackson County Central wrestles Brandon Valley at 6 p.m. that evening followed by the Vikings and Marauders.
JCC grad Keegan Moore wrestled twice in Iowa over the weekend.
He lost his 184-pound match to fourth-ranked Marcus Coleman of Iowa State in the Sooners’ Big 12 dual Friday in Ames. The Cyclones won the dual 25-12.
On Sunday in Cedar Falls vs. Northern Iowa, Keegan lost 4-1 to top-ranked Parker Keckeisen, a former teammate of his with the Panhers.
The Sooners are back at McCasland Field House in Norman for duals vs. Missouri and Rider this weekend. OU is at North Dakota State on Feb. 10 and at South Dakota State on Feb. 12.
Women’s basketball
Martin County West grad Alyssa Williamson is a 5-6 senior guard with the Hamline women’s basketball team.
In the past week she had six points, four assists and two rebounds in a 61-46 win over St.Catherine; six points and three rebounds in a 74-38 win over Macalaster; and eight points and three rebounds in a 70-57 loss at Saint Mary’s.
The Pipers are 13-6 overall and 10-6 in the MIAC.
Men’s basketball
Jackson County Central grad Brody Anderson is a graduate assistant coach with the Peru State College men’s basketball team, an NAIA Division I program.
The Bobcats have won six straight and are 17-5 overall, 12-4 in the Heart of America Athletic College.
Peru State heads to Oskaloosa, Iowa for a matchup with No. 9 William Penn, which is 20-2 overall and 16-2 in the conference.
Indoor track and field
Jackson County Central graduate Olivia Anderson, a freshman with the top-ranked Minnesota State women’s indoor track and field team placed 30th out of 45 runners in the mile at the Mark Schuck in Mankato.
Fairmont grad Alli Lardy, a senior at North Dakota, placed fifth in two events at the UND Open. She had a distance of 59-9 ¼ in the weight throw and 44-9 in the shot put.
Another Fairmont graduate had a good outing in Grand Forks.
Andrew Moeller of South Dakota State took fourth place overall in the men's 600- meters with a personal-best time of 1:21.71.
Fairmont grad Wyatt Quiring, a senior at Gustavus, placed in two events at the St. Olaf Invitational.
He placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.68 and fourth in the 400 meter with at 51.11 clocking.
