Jackson County Central graduate Alaina Wolff, a 5-foot-9 senior defensive specialist for the University of South Dakota volleyball team, was in double figures in digs in all three matches the Coyotes played at Iowa’s Kwik Star Klassic in Coralville.
She had 11 digs Thursday in a 3-2 loss to the host Hawkeyes, 11 more in a 3-1 win over Drake Friday, and 19 in a 3-1 win over Saint Louis Saturday.
JCC grad Sadie Voss, a 5-9 junior outside hitter for the University of Sioux Falls volleyball team, had 12 kills for the Cougars in a 3-1 loss at Northern State in their NSIC opener Friday.
Alicia Brandt, a 6-foot senior middle blocker at Waldorf, recorded three blocks in a 3-0 win over Briar Cliff on Saturday.
Jackson County Central grad Emma Haren, a freshman at Morningside, had five kills for the Mustangs in a 3-1 loss to Dakota Wesleyan. The Tigers are coached by Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield graduate Lindsay Wilber. We’ll mention her again later.
Jackson County Central graduate Evan Paplow, a freshman with the Iowa Central Community College men’s cross country team, was the fourth runner for the Tritons at the Greeno/Dirksen Invite hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln on Saturday.
Paplow had an 8K time of 27:41.73 to place 93rd out of 268 finishers. Iowa Central was 13th of 26 teams in a field that included teams from levels from NCAA Division I through two-year schools.
Fairmont grad Laura Thompson, a sophomore at Augustana, placed 45th of 303 runners in the Women’s Maroon Division at the Roy Griak Invitational at Les Bolstad University of Minnesota Golf Course. She had a 6K time of 24:24.5. The Vikings were the champions among 24 NCAA Division II and III teams.
Ryan Pierson, who competed on the Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin cross country team, is a freshman at UW-River Falls. He placed 43rd out of 299 runners at the St. Olaf Invitational with an 8K time of 27:21.7. The Falcons were eighth of 22 complete teams.
Aspen Clarksean, the daughter of JCC graduate Dallas Clarksean, is a senior with the Hamline women’s cross country team, placed 144th of 282 runners at St. Olaf in a 6K time of 27:02.5.
Jackson County Central graduate Jack Sadusky is playing both JV football and men’s soccer at Northwestern College. He’s a kicker in football and forward in soccer.
Another JCC grad, Seth Stai, is a freshman linebacker on the Red Raiders’ football team. He recovered a fumble in a JV game at Morningside Monday.
Martin County West grad Max Olson, a 6-3, 253-pound sophomore defensive lineman at Gustavus, had four tackles for the Gusties in a 31-10 win at UW-Stevens Point. He had 1.5 tackles for a loss and one sack for a nine-yard loss.
Two Fairmont High School graduates met at Kirkeby-Over Stadium in Sioux Falls Saturday. Zach Jorgensen (6-3 195) is a wide receiver for Northern State and Sawyer Tordsen (6-7, 305) is an offensive lineman at Augustana. Both are redshirt freshmen.
Jorgensen had a solo tackle for the Wolves and Tordsen saw playing time for the Vikings, who won the NSIC game 41-7.
Another Fairmont grad, Hudson Artz, is a 6-foot sophomore safety at North Dakota State. He saw some playing time for the Bison in their 52-3 win at East Tennessee State Saturday.
