After a week off, here’s an update on what a few local graduates are up to.
Jackson County Central graduate Sadie Voss, a 5-foot-10 sophomore outside hitter with the University of Sioux Falls volleyball team, had nine kills and four digs for the Cougars in a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Wayne State.
USF is 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC with road matches this week at Bemidji State Friday and Minnesota-Crookston Saturday.
JCC grad Alaina Wolff, a 5-6 junior defensive specialist at South Dakota, had 11 digs and one ace serve in a 3-1 loss to Omaha in the Summit League opener for the Coyotes.
USD (6-6, 0-1) hosts Kansas City Thursday and Denver on Saturday.
Another JCC graduate, Alicia Brandt, is a 6-foot junior middle blocker at Waldorf University, recorded seven blocks and three kills for the Warriors in a 3-0 North Star Athletic Association loss at Bellevue (Neb.). She also had one kill and one block in a 3-0 loss at Dakota State.
Waldorf (10-4, 0-3) travels to North Dakota this week, playing at Dickinson State Friday and Valley City State Saturday.
Jackson County Central graduate Olivia Anderson, a sophomore at Minnesota State, had a 6K PR recently at Carleton College’s Running of the Cows meet in Northfield. She placed 65th out of 213 finishers with a time of 25:04.1.
Two Fairmont grads ran for Hamline in the men’s race at the Running of the Cows.
Will Saari finished 100th out of 192 finishers in 28:41.8 and Connor Artner was 178 in 33:59.2.
For the Hamline women, junior Aspen Clarksean placed 147th in 27:25.5. She graduated from Mankato West and is the daughter of JCC grad Dallas Clarksean and his wife, Niki, and the granddaughter of Charlie and Linda Clarksean.
Fairmont graduate Bergen Senf, a senior with the St. Olaf College women’s golf team, had the eighth top-10 performance of her career by tying for ninth at the Division III Classic on Sunday at Emerald Greens Golf Course in Hastings.
Following a first-round, three-over 75 that had her tied for third, Senf shot a 79 that was highlighted by two birdies in a three-hole stretch on holes 14-16.
The Oles will play in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Championships Oct. 7-9 at The Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo.
Martin County West graduate Blake Crosby is now a fourth-grade teacher in the Sibley East School District and is an assistant football coach for the Wolverines.
Crosby was an assistant coach at Lennox, S.D. for five seasons and was head coach of the Orioles for four seasons. He was the Region 2A Coach of the Year in 2020. He’ll be an assistant wrestling coach at Sibley East.
The Wolverines won for the first time this season last week, winning 20-13 at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial. That allowed Blake to revive a tradition:
Sibley East is scheduled to host LeSueur-Henderson this week.
Here’s an ABC video promoting its 1980 fall season.
How many do you recognize. In a bit of a spoiler alert, my favorites are a bearded Fonzie (Henry Winkler) and a young Tom Hanks.
Enjoy:
