In this edition of Lots O’ Stuff we have student-athlete updates.
Jackson County Central graduate Sadie Voss, a 5-foot-9 junior outside hitter with the University of Sioux Falls volleyball team, led the Cougars with 54 kills in four matches at the Kansas City Classic.
She recorded double figures in kills in the first three matches with 17, 16 and 13 kills and then had eight in the final match. USF went 1-3.
JCC grad Alaina Wolff is a 5-6 senior defensive specialist at South Dakota, which went 1-2 at the Northern Kentucky tournament. The Coyotes lost 3-1 to No. 4 Louisville and 3-0 to the host school before winning 3-1 over Missouri, which was in the others receiving votes column.
Wolff had 13 digs in the Missouri win. USD (3-2) will host Montana State, Iowa State and UTEP this weekend at the South Dakota Classic in Vermillion. Another JCC graduate, Michelle (Van Epps) Aggen is the Director of Volleyball Operations at Iowa State.
Jackson County Central grad Alicia Brandt, a 6-foot senior middle blocker at Waldorf, had four kills in a 3-0 loss to Dakota Wesleyan.
Emma Haren, also a JCC graduate, is a freshman outside hitter at Morningside. She had three kills in a 3-2 loss to Dordt and five kills in a 3-0 win over Mount Marty. The Mustangs (12-3) host No. 1 Northwestern on Wednesday.
Martin County West grad Max Olson is a 6-3, 250-pound defensive line for Gustavus. He had one tackle for the Gusties in a loss to Whitworth.
Fairmont graduate Zach Jorgensen is now a wide receiver at Northern State after transferring from Minnesota. He had two catches for 26 yards is a 34-10 loss to Sioux Falls.
Two area grads competed in the Augustana Twilight cross country meet.
JCC grad Evan Paplow, a freshman at Iowa Central, was 149th out of 375 runners in a 5K time of 20:57.9.
In the women’s event, also 5K, Fairmont grad Laura Thompson, a junior for host Augustana, placed 17th of 239 runners in 17:45.04. The Vikings were third as a team behind Division I schools Nebraska and South Dakota State.
A pair of former local high school standouts ran at the River Town Invitational in River Falls, Wis.
Ryan Pierson, who competed for the cooperatively sponsored Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin program, is a freshman at host UW-River Falls. He was fifth out of 38 runners with an 8K time of 27:14.1.
Fairmont graduate Emma Gudahl, a junior at UWRF, placed 43rd out of 52 runners in a 6K time of 29:46.5.
Hamline’s cross country teams were at the Luther College Finanger Invitational, which was held at the Calonett Estate in Waseca.
Fairmont graduate Will Saari, a sophomore, was 41st of 76 runners in the men’s race with a 5K time of 18:13.5.
Aspen Clarksean is a senior for the Piper women’s CC team. She’s the daughter of JCC graduate Dallas Clarksean and the granddaughter of Charlie and Linda Clarksean of Alpha.
She was 33rd of 68 runners with a 5K clocking of 22:40.6.
