My humble apology for the delay in delivery of this week’s edition of Lots O’ Stuff. It was found this morning in a shipping container on Loon Lake.
Senior wrestlers
The Jackson County Central wrestling team honored the five seniors on this year’s team prior to the Huskies dual with Windom/Mountain Lake last week.
This year’s group will be remembered for a couple of things.
They were a big part of the resurgence of the program over the past few years and all five plan to compete in a sport in college.
Two will continue to wrestle.
Payton Handevidt is headed to Sioux Falls and Augustana University, while Kie Anderson will go to Concordia College in Moorhead.
Will Freking and Trace Michelson will be off to Northfield to play football at St. Olaf College.
And, Andrew Boyum will compete in both cross country and track and field at Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge.
College news
I look forward to following the above group in this space in the coming years.
Right now let’s take a look at some area grads already competing on the collegiate level.
Track and field
Four local graduates were at the Bison Open hosted by North Dakota State at the Shelly Ellig Indoor Track and Field Facility in Fargo Saturday.
Two competed in the women’s mile run.
JCC grad Jessica Christoffer, a junior with the Jackrabbits indoor team, placed second out of the 14 finishers with a personal-record time of 5:01.43. SDSU’s Twitter account shared the news:
Also in the mile, Fairmont graduate Hannah Neusch, freshman at SDSU, was 12th in 5:51.
Another Fairmont graduate, Andrew Moeller, is a sophomore with the Jackrabbits’ men’s team. He was fifth in the mile in 4:31 and was on SDSU’s 4x400-meter relay team that placed second.
There was another Fairmont graduate competing in Fargo. Allison Lardy is a senior at North Dakota. She was fourth of 10 competitors in the shot put (45-3) and fifth of 11 in the weight throw (57-2).
Also, Fairmont graduate Iliana Ramon, a senior at Gustavus, ran in two events at Minnesota State Mankato. She was sixth of 16 in the mile with a time of 5:38 and 15th of 20 in the 3000 meters in 11:40.
Martin County West graduate Cora Olson is a junior with the Concordia University women’s track and field team in Seward, Neb.
Olson won the 200 meters in a field of 13 entries with a time of 26.67 seconds at the Scott Nisely Memorial Classic in Crete, Neb. She placed fourth from a field of 17 that started the 60 meters. Cora had a time of 8.00 in the prelims and 8.03 in the finals.
In the long jump, Olson placed third of 19 entrants with a leap of 17-8¾.
Fairmont graduate Conner Tordsen is a senior at Dakota State in Madison, S.D. He competed at the Mount Marty Open in Yankton Saturday.
He was second of 10 in the weight throw with an effort of 54-7.25 and third of 12 in the shot put at 46-3.25.
Tordsen has already qualified for the NAIA National meet in the weight throw with his effort of 56-2 last month in Brookings. The national meet will also be held in Brookings in March.
Wrestling
A pair of Martin County West graduates won two matches as 10th-ranked Augustana picked up a pair of wins last week.
On Thursday, freshman Jaxson Rohman won a decision at 125 pounds and redshirt freshman Miles Fitzgerald also won by decision at 165 as the Vikings defeated No. 21 Northern State 23-12 in Aberdeen.
Then on Saturday, both won major decisions in Augustana’s 39-6 home win over Southwest Minnesota State.
Women’s swimming and diving
