Gavin Jacobsen established a Jackson Bulls team record with 18 strikeouts in an eventual 4-1 win over Lakefield in 13 innings Sunday at Stan King Field.
Jacobsen recorded those strikeouts in nine innings and was not involved in the decision. That’s a Jackson Bulls record, breaking the mark of 17 by Tom Schuller in six innings in a loss to Worthington in 1990.
There were a couple of versions of a Jackson town team before the Bulls began play in 1985. Cobb Anderson owns the Jackson town single-game record with 19 vs. Brewster in a win in 1954.
Jackson got on the board first in Sunday’s game as Lucas Gardner led off the second inning with a double and later scored on Evan Olsen’s bunt.
The Frogs tied the game in the fifth as Taylor Christopher walked and scored on Gabe Wolff’s single with two outs in the fifth.
There was no more scoring until the top of the 13th in the scheduled seven-inning game when Carter Snyder delivered a two-out, two-strike double that scored Chris Gumto and Seth Busch. Shad Wacker followed with an RBI single to pad the lead.
Lakefield was retired in order in the bottom of the inning.
Jacobsen went the first nine innings, allowing one run on two hits and walking six to go with the 18 strikeouts. Olesen didn’t allow a run in his four frames to get the win, giving up three hits, walking one and fanning three.
Phil Pronk started for Lakefield and went six innings before giving way to Dalton Henning, who went the rest of the way.
Wacker and Andy Wolf had three hits apiece for the Bulls. Gardner and Olesen each had two. Getting one each were Gumto, Busch, Snyder, Alex Bretzman and Nate Monson.
In addition to Wolff’s RBI single, Bryson Powers and Levi Lindley had hit for the Frogs.
