TRIMONT – Martin County West remained undefeated with a 73-59 win over St. James Area in nonconference boys basketball Tuesday night.
On Wednesday the Mavericks remained third in the Class 1A ratings by Minnesota Basketball News.
Four players scored in double figures for MCW in Tuesday’s win.
Zach Anderson scored 22 points, Tanner Sinn 19, Mitch Weber 14 and Christian Bachenberg 11.
Martin County will play three games in four nights as the Mavericks play Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain (5-7) in a Valley Conference game Thursday in Granada and are back home Friday for a nonconference game vs. Class 1A No. 11 Spring Grove (11-2) Friday.
That’s the first of five games MCW has against state-ranked teams on its remaining schedule.
The Mavericks have two key conference games with Class 1A No. 13 Mankato Loyola (10-3) as they host the Crusaders on Friday, Jan. 28 Trimont and then travel to Mankato for a rematch on Monday, Feb. 14.
Loyola handed previously top-ranked Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s (12-1) its first loss of the season 84-67 last week. St. Mary’s slid to fourth this week.
MCW travels to Class 2A No. 6 Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial (13-2) for the team’s second meeting of the season Monday, Jan. 31. The Mavericks won the first contest 66-47 on Dec. 2.
Also, Martin County West is scheduled to host Class 1A No. 1 Hayfield (13-1) on Friday, Feb. 18.
The other leaders remain the same, Minneapolis North (8-3) in Class 2A, Totino-Grace (9-2) in Class 3A and Park Center (12-0) in 4A.
