Martin County West dominated Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on both sides of the ball as the fourth-seeded Mavericks shut out the fifth-seeded Knights 36-0 in the first round of the Section 3A football playoffs Tuesday in Sherburn.
MCW held RTR to 112 yards offense (54 of which came on the Knights’ first possession) and had two rushers go over the century mark in advancing to take on top-seeded Murray County Central at 3 p.m. Saturday in Slayton. The Rebels downed eighth-seeded Wabasso 35-7 Tuesday.
The Mavericks held the Knights to 74 yards rushing and 48 passing while piling up 377 yards on the ground and 104 in the air for 481 total yards.
Rylan Cutler rushed for 136 yards on 13 carries including a 43-yard touchdown and Joseph Forsberg had 133 yards on 18 tries including a nine-yard TD run.
Carver Rohman rushed eight times for 64 yards and three touchdowns, coming from 3, 21 and yards.
Christian Bachenberg was 4-for-6 passing for 104 yards. Tanner Sinn had two catches, while Zach Anderson and Jesse Potts each had one.
Wyatt Williamson and Max Olson had seven tackles apiece for MCW.
Next up for Martin County West is Murray County Central. The Rebels edged the Mavericks 24-18 on Oct. 8, also in Slayton.
Saturday’s other semifinal has Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (7-2) at Springfield (7-2). The winners play Friday, Nov. 5 at Southwest Minnesota State University in the championship game.
