Maddie Carlson pitched third-seeded Martin County West to another win in the Section 2A softball tournament at Fox Lake Area Sports Complex Thursday as the Mavericks were 6-3 winners over 11th-seeded Madelia.
The win propels MCW into a winner’s bracket game at 10 a.m. Saturday vs. second-seeded United South Central. The Rebels are 19-1 after downing Cleveland 13-1 in five innings Thursday.
USC shut out MCW 3-0 on April 15 in Wells.
In Thursday’s win over Valley Conference rival Madelia, Carlson went the distance in the pitcher’s circle, allowing three runs on five hits, walking four and striking out 10.
Arnold and Courtney Anderson each collected three of the Mavericks’ nine hits, with each player scoring one run. Arnold netted two RBIs and Anderson generated a triple.
Addy Wohlhuter had two hits including a double and Courtney Anderson also collected a pair of hits.
Emily Schettler had a two-run double, and Hannah Rosenberg had an RBI single. Lina Arnold brought in a run with a ground out.
The Mavericks will also play at noon Saturday.
