Fourth-seeded Martin County West upended top-seeded United South Central 56-50 in the semifinals of the Section 2A South Sub-Section boys basketball tournament Thursday at St. Peter High School.
The win gives the Mavericks a 17-11 record and it means they’ll return to St. Peter on Monday, this time at Lund Arena at Gustavus Adolphus College to play second-seeded Mankato Loyola (20-8) in the championship game. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
The Crusaders made their way to the title game with a 49-45 victory over third-seeded Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey.
MCW had two players record double-doubles.
Zach Anderson scored 22 points that included going 16-for-18 from the free throw line, 14-15 in the second half. He also had 11 rebounds, seven assists and five blocked shots.
Wyatt Williamson netted 11 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
Mitchell Weber and Hunter Schmidt scored eight points apiece, with Jamesson Forsberg scoring seven.
Zale Bushlack led the Rebels in scoring with 18 points.
