Martin County West has been seeded 12th for the Section 2A baseball tournament that starts Thursday with six first-round games at the sites of the higher-seeded team.
That sends the Mavericks, 3-11, to New Ulm to take fifth-seeded Minnesota Valley Lutheran (10-9) at 5 p.m. at Mueller Park. The first round is single elimination.
The teams did not meet during the regular season.
Thursday’s winners advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament that begins on Tuesday, May 27, again at the site of higher-seeded team.
If MCW wins over MVL, the Mavericks would face either fourth-seeded Madelia or fifth-seeded Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey.
New Ulm Cathedral is seeded first and Springfield second.
