Martin County West’s girls and boys basketball teams and the Martin County Red Bulls wrestling team will all get their seasons going this week.
The Martin County Area Magic gymnastics team doesn’t open its season until Dec. 8.
Tuesday, Nov. 29
The MCW girls bssketball team will be the first Mavericks’ winter team to compete when it plays a Valley Conference game at Nicollet. It will also be the opener for the Raiders.
Thursday, Dec. 1
MCW’s boys will also open their season at Nicollet. The Raiders will also be playing their first game.
Friday, Dec. 2
The Class 1A ninth-ranked Martin County West boys will play for a second straight night, traveling to top-ranked and two-time defending state champion Hayfield. That will be the Vikings’ season opener.
MCW’s girls basketball team will play its home opener, hosting Mankato Loyola. The Crusaders have games vs. Schaeffer Academy and Immanuel Lutheran scheduled before visiting Trimont.
Saturday, Dec. 3
The Class 2A No. 7 ranked Martin County wrestling team opens its season in Blue Earth at the Dick Maher Invitational.
The Red Bulls and host Buccaneers are among seven teams from Minnesota. The others are Madelia/Truman, Mankato East, Pine Island, Redwood Valley, and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown/Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.
Rounding out the field from Iowa is Lake Mills.
