The regular season ends for Martin County West’s fall sports teams with events scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
Monday, Oct. 17
The MCW volleyball has won four of its last five matches to even its record at 13-13 heading into the regular-season finale at Sleepy Eye. The Indians have a 17-6-1 record.
Play in the Section 2A South Sub-Section tournament starts on Monday, Oct. 24 but the Mavericks should be seeded high enough to not play until Thursday, Oct. 27.
Tuesday, Oct. 18
Martin County West’s cross country teams will compete in the Valley Conference meet at Lake Crystal.
Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial won the team title in both the boys and girls divisions at last year’s conference meet at Fox Lake Golf Course in Sherburn.
Josiah Demaris, now a sophomore from Madelia/Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther, was last year’s boys individual champion. He was seventh in last week’s state Class A ratings.
Last year’s individual girls winner, LCWM/Nicollet’s Grace Moeller, graduated.
MCW had the second-place finisher in both races last year, senior Jamesson Forsberg in the boys race and junior Katie Hartke for the girls.
The Mavericks will compete in the Section 2A meet Thursday, Oct. 27 at Baylor Park in Norwood Young America.
Wednesday, Oct. 19
The Martin County West football team will play for the number one seed in the Section 3A playoffs when it hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at 7 p.m. in Sherburn.
Both teams have a 7-1 record.
MCW lost 27-20 to Springfield last week. TMB’s loss was 12-7 to Adrian/Ellsworth in Week 2.
The section playoffs start on Tuesday, Oct. 25.
