Here’s what’s on the schedule this week for Martin County West Spring sports teams. It’s all subject to change.
Baseball
Martin County West’s baseball team continues a stretch of road games to start the season, playing three road games this week, with the first two being Valley Conference contests.
The Mavericks, who are 1-0 after opening the season with a 6-2 win, are at Madelia on Monday, Cleveland Tuesday and face Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in Heron Lake on Friday.
The Blackhawks are 1-1, winning 7-6 over Minnesota Valley Lutheran and losing 6-3 at Cleveland. The win over Madelia is the lone game that the Clippers have played.
Coach Jon Traetow’s team has its first home game scheduled for Thursday, April 17 vs. Mankato Loyola.
Softball
Coach Darrell Ziegler’s MCW softball team also has three road games scheduled this week, starting with a Monday game in New Ulm vs. Minnesota Valley Lutheran. The Mavericks have started their season 2-0, beating Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 17-3 and Nicollet 10-8.
The Chargers are 0-3 with losses to Madelia, United South Central and JWP.
MCW is at Cleveland Tuesday. The Clippers start the week with a 1-0 record, edging New Ulm Cathedral 3-2. The Clippers are scheduled to play Sibley East and Madelia before meeting the Mavericks.
Rounding out the week is a trip to Okabena Friday to face Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda. The Coyotes don’t open their season until Thursday at Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
Track and field
The Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin track and field squad had been scheduled to attend a meet in Sleepy Eye Monday, but that meet was canceled.
The Mavericks are slated to go to St. James for a meet on Tuesday. In addition to MCW/B-O and the host Saints, teams scheduled to compete are Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop, Tri-City United, Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther, and Mankato Loyola/Cleveland.
Golf
MCW’s golf teams are scheduled to play three times this week, twice at home.
On Tuesday the Mavericks host Blue Earth Area in a dual at Fox Lake Golf Club in Sherburn. Thursday, MCW faces Madelia in a dual at St. James Golf Course.
Martin County West closes out the week Friday with a quadrangular at Fox Lake, hosting Section 2A rivals New Ulm Cathedral, Sleepy Eye and Springfield.
