Softball
A busy week (doesn’t it seem like every week in the spring is busy?) is scheduled for the Martin County West softball team with three games in four days.
The Mavericks are 4-1 and have had a week off since back-to-back no-hitters vs. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda and Minnesota Valley Lutheran. MCW starts the week with a 4:30 p.m. game vs. Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey (2-4).
After a couple of days to practice, Martin County West then has two nonconference home games at the end of the week.
Windom (2-4) will be at the Fox Lake Area Sports Complex for a 4:30 p.m. game on Thursday. The Eagles have a home-and-home series vs. St. James Area Monday and Tuesday before traveling to Welcome.
On Friday, Class 1A No. 1 United South Central (6-0) is the opponent for the Mavericks. Rebels’ junior Mariah Anderson recently became the sixth pitcher in state history to reach 1,000 strikeouts for her career.
USC, which had a game vs. Class 2A No. 1 Randolph postponed last week, has road games at Triton and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown slated before facing MCW.
