Jackson County Central placed second in the girls team standings and 10th in the boys at the Paul Metcalf Invitational cross country meet Friday at Mountain Lake Golf Course.
The meet is named in honor of Jackson High School graduate Paul Metcalf, a longtime cross country and track and field coach at Mountain Lake. He is now retired.
Host Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey won the girls team title with 55 points, with the Huskies second with 67 points.
The top 15 runners received medals and two JCC runners took home some hardware.
Elese Paplow finished sixth in the field of 68 runners with a 5000-meter time of 21:27.85 and Cora Pauling was eighth in 21:51.23.
Luverne’s Jenna DeBates, who is the top-ranked runner in the state in Class 1A, won the meet in 18:24.67.
Luverne won the boys team title with 59 points, with MLAC second with 105 points. JCC had 202 points.
The top finisher for the Huskies was Evan Paplow, who placed 17t out of 111 runners with a 5K time of 17:31.44.
Owen Janiszeski of Luverne, who is second in the Class 1A boys ratings, was the individual winner in 16:01.29.
Jackson County Central’s next meet is the Bruce Gluf Invitational in Luverne on Saturday, Sept. 9.
