CHAMPLIN – All four Jackson County Central entries in the Minnesota Ninth Grade Wrestling League individual state tournament returned home as place winners, with two reaching the finals.
Martin County also had two wrestlers in the tournament at Champlin Park High School.
For JCC, Quinn Landherr placed second at 138 pounds and Clay Malchow was the runner-up at 145.
Landherr won his first three matches, winning 9-4 over Oliver Mikkelsen (United/Clay/Becker), 3-1 over Isaac Thompsom (Princeton) and 7-2 in sudden victory overtime over Isaiah Lavergne (Hastings). In the championship match, Zach Thompson (Fosston-Bagley) won a 5-2 decision over Landherr.
Malchow also won his first three matches, winning 10-3 over Logan Guck (Perham), 4-2 over Wyatt Pollard (New Ulm) and 8-5 over Fletcher Peterson (Hastings). In the finals, Owen Angell won by fall over Malchow.
Placing third for the Huskies were Isaac Rodriguez at 100 pounds and Ben Dahlin at 113.
Both won their first two matches before losing in the semifinals.
Rodriguez won his third-place match by fall in 1:09 over Gabriel Witschorik (Waconia) while Dahlin won 5-3 in sudden victory over Peyton Herbst (Totino-Grace).
The Huskies were fifth out of 79 teams that are entered in the one-class MNGWL.
For the Red Bulls, Pierce Rohman wrestled at 88 pounds and Torrey Paplow competed at 94 pounds. Neither placed.
