MANKATO – Hanna Geistfeld, a 6-0 senior forward from Truman with the Bethany Lutheran College women’s basketball team has picked up more honors this week.
She has been named the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the ninth time this season; named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week for the third consecutive week and fifth time this season; and is the U.S. Basketball Writers Association National Player of the Week for the third time.
Geistfeld posted a pair of double-doubles last week for the Vikings.
She had 36 points, 13 rebounds, five assists, and two steals in a 95-78 win over Crown on Friday and followed that up with 33 points, 21 rebounds and four assists in a 75-63 victory over Minnesota-Morris.
For the weekend, she averaged 34.5 points, 17.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 72.5 percent (29-for-40) from the field and 73.3 percent (11-15) from the free throw line.
Geistfeld leads NCAA Division III in points (620), scoring average (27.0), field goals made (230), and free throws made (152). She’s also second in total rebounds (390) and double doubles (17).
During the week she became BLC's career leader in rebounds as she now stands at 1,044. She was already the leader in points, currently totaling 2,197.
Bethany is 17-6 overall and lead the UMAC with a 12-0 record. Northwestern is second at 11-1. The Vikings and Eagles play at 5 p.m. Friday in St. Paul.
BLC is then at North Central at 3 p.m. Saturday. The UMAC tournament starts Tuesday.
