MANKATO – Awards keep coming in for Truman native Hanna Geistfeld, who recently completed her career with the Bethany Lutheran College women’s basketball program.
Geistfeld has been named the Regional Player of the Year by D3hoops.com, and was also a first-team all-region selection for the third straight season.
For the season she averaged 25.9 points and 13.0 rebounds per game for the Vikings, who had a record of 19-8. Geistfeld shot 60 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line.
Also, she was named first-team Academic All-America by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors Association.
Geistfeld is an elementary education major with a 3.56 grade point average. She was the only selection from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference.
“Balancing academics and athletics is a skill learned at a young age for all athletes," Geistfeld said. “You make it work because that's the only option. You work hard in all areas of life if you want to be successful.”
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Geistfeld said her favorite memory of her time in the BLC program was beating Bethel in the first round of the NCAA tournament, and her second favorite memory was beating Superior for its first NCAA tournament berth.
