MANKATO – Hanna Geistfeld continues to add to her already considerable legacy with the Bethany Lutheran College women’s basketball program.
In a game at Minnesota-Morris, the 6-foot senior from Truman made history right from the opening tip as she set a school record for career games played with 109.
Early in the third quarter Geistfeld made a jumper from the free throw line to set the BLC record for career points scored with 1,953.
Then with only 5.8 seconds remaining, Geistfeld also broke her own single-game record for points scored with 38. She also had 19 rebounds for her 11th double double of the season. The Vikings beat the Cougars 73-60.
On Saturday, Geistfeld became the first player in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference history to reach the 2,000-point mark for a career on a layup with 2:03 remaining in the third quarter.
She recorded her 12th double double of the season with 32 points and 18 rebounds in Bethany’s 88-68 win over Crown College in St. Bonifacius. It was also her fourth straight 30-point game.
Geistfeld tweeted her appreciation for everyone involved with the Bethany program:
The Vikings are 11-6 overall and lead the UMAC with a 6-0 record. BLC is scheduled to host North Central at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
