Collin Munoz is recovering at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester after collapsing during a recent Southern Plains Football League game.
The Jackson County Central graduate suffered what was initially thought to be a heat-related emergency while playing for the Mountain Lake Lakers in a game at Watertown, S.D. on June 12.
He would later be diagnosed with what was termed as an extremely severe traumatic brain injury.
According to a post on his sister, Alaina Crowell's Twitter account, a craniotomy was performed on Collin after a brain bleed from the injury.
Munoz had recently moved back to Jackson and is to begin teaching special education at Riverside Elementary School this fall.
Collin now has some rehab time ahead of him as well as medical expenses.
Jay Doyscher, General Manager of the South Central Hawgs of the SPFL when Munoz was a player, has created a fund-raiser to help with those expenses. He's designed a T-shirt that represents the football teams Collin has played and coached for.
After playing for the Huskies, Collin attended Gustavus Adolphus College and played for the Gusties. He later played for the Hawgs.
Munoz has coached at DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis and at St. Cloud Cathedral.
