A pair of area graduates competed in the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala. this week.
Fairmont graduate Conner Tordsen, a junior at Dakota State University, made his debut at the national meet, competing in two events.
He was in a field of 35 competitors in the men's hammer throw.
Tordsen fouled on his first attempt, threw 176 feet, 7 inches on his second toss and then fouled on his third attempt. He finished 16th overall in the event and was the top North Star Athletic Association athlete.
In the discus, Tordsen had an effort 142-1 on his first attempt, followed by 149-2 on his second attempt. He fouled on the final attempt and finish 17th overall.
Martin County West graduate Cora Olson, a junior at Concordia University (Neb.) ran the anchor leg on the Bulldogs' women's 4x100-meter relay.
The Concordia entry did not qualify for the finals of the event, but broke the school record for the second time this season. Their time of 47.66 seconds placed them 10th overall in the prelims.
