Jaxson Rohman, a sophomore at Augustana University, placed second at 125 pounds at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships at Alliant Energy PowerHouse in Cedar Rapids.
A Martin County West High School graduate and former Martin County Red Bull, Rohman lost a 4-2 decision to Brendon Garcia of Adams State (Colo.) in the finals. Garcia is a redshirt sophomore from Pueblo, Colo.
In the championship match, Rohman wrestled hard on his feet in the first period, keeping the match scoreless.
Rohman started on top in the second period, with Garcia earning the first point of the match with an escape. Rohman brought Garcia down to the mat to take a 2-1 lead, but an escape by Garcia would tie the match at 2-2 to end the second period.
Garcia scored a takedown with 10 seconds remaining to claim the victory.
Rohman finishes the season with a record of 20-7. He’s qualified for the national tournament in both of his seasons with the Vikings. This is the first time he’s earned all-American honors.
Rohman has a career record of 35-13 at Augustana.
He’s the third former Red Bull youth wrestler to become a college all-American, joining Jacob Rahn of Iowa Lakes Community College last season and Katie Lange of Augsburg Univerity this year.
