Williamson, Reds to debut City Connect unis vs. Angels

Brandon Williamson makes his third start of the season today (Saturday) when the Cincinnati Reds host the Los Angeles Angels at Great American Ball Park. Game time is 3:10 p.m. Minnesota time.
The Martin County West graduate was the winning pitcher in his last appearance on Monday in Miami. He tied his career best with 6.2 innings pitched (the third time he’s gone that distance) and established a career mark for shutout innings.
Williamson allowed three hits, walked one and struck out four. He left the game with a 1-0 lead, allowing only four of 24 batters to reach.
It was his first win and first quality start since Sept. 29, 2023, at St. Louis, a span of 920 days.
In two starts this season he has pitched 11.1 innings, allowing six runs, six hits walking three and striking out seven. He’s 1-1 with a 4.76 earned run average.
It will be his time facing the Angels.
Los Angeles won the opening game of the series 10-2 Friday night as Cincinnati lost its third straight.
The Reds will debut their second version of their City Connect uniforms that they will wear for Saturday home games this season.
Cincinnati is 8-6, fourth in the National League Central. The Angels are 7-7, second in the American League West.
George Klassen, who had a 1-9 record over the 2022 and 2023 seasons at the University of Minnesota, is scheduled to start for Los Angeles.
It will be the second start for the rookie. Klassen made his MLB debut with a start on April 5, against the Seattle Mariners. He was called up on short notice from Triple-A Salt Lake to replace an ill Ryan Johnson.
He went 2.2 innings vs. Seattle, allowing two runs, three hits, walking five and striking outs four.
After Saturday, Williamson’s next scheduled start is Friday vs. the Minnesota Twins at Target Field.
