FAIRMONT – Zach and Leah Gerhardt have entered an agreement to be track promoters at Fairmont Raceway for the upcoming season. The Martin County Fair Board made the announcement Tuesday.
The Gerhardts said later in the day that Wednesday will be the new night for racing at Fairmont Raceway this season. The fair board said it supports the move.
The United States Racing Association will be the sanctioning group for the track.
According to a Facebook post, track officials say that the USRA track and national points fund is lucrative. The post also said USRA promoters in the region have been helpful and willing to work together.
There are eight tracks within about a two hour drive or less from Fairmont that are USRA members.
Two of those are in Minnesota, Chateau Speedway in Lansing, and Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley.
Five are in Iowa, Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Sports Park Raceway in Fort Dodge, Mason City Motor Speedway, Cresco Speedway and Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City.
The final track on that list is I-90 Speedway in Hartford, S.D.
The complete schedule for Fairmont Raceway will be announced later. One event has been announced as the Tri-State Late Model Series will visit on Friday, Aug. 26.
