Martin County West graduate Brandon Williamson pitched five and two-third innings Tuesday night for the Louisville Bats, the Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds in a road game vs. the Toledo Mud Hens, Detroit’s Triple-A affiliate.
He allowed three runs on four hits, walked three, hit one batter and struck out four. Williamson equaled a season high with 96 pitches, of which 54 were for strikes.
The Bats won 7-3, but Williamson was not involved in the decision.
Louisville had a 3-2 lead with two outs in the sixth when a triple off Williamson tied the game at 3-3. The Bats broke the tie by scoring four runs in the top of the eighth inning to win 7-3.
It was Williamson’s ninth start for Louisville. He has a 1-3 record with a 3.77 earned run average.
In 43 innings he has allowed 20 runs (18 earned) on 41 hits, walking 26, hitting four and striking out 37.
Combined with his time with Double-A Chattanooga, Williamson has a 6-5 record with a 4.0 ERA. He’s pitched 110.1 innings, allowing 51 runs (49 earned) on 102 hits, walking 66, hitting nine and striking out 111.
Toledo’s starting pitcher Tuesday was Michael Pineda, who was on a rehab assignment from the parent club Tigers as he recovers from a triceps injury. He told reporters that he felt good after allowing one three hits and no walks while striking out six in four innings. He is expected to make another start in the final game of the six-game series Sunday. Detroit is targeting Sept. 2 as a date to return from the injured list.
