Mavericks hold off former conference rival

Martin County West was a 3-1 winner over former Valley Conference rival St. Clair in a nonconference volleyball match Thursday in Trimont. The Cyclones are now members of the new South Central Conference.

Emily Anderson had 27 kills and 23 digs for the Mavericks. She also had three blocks and three ace serves. Maddie Carlson was charted with 12 kills and 26 digs.

Emily Schettler had 44 set assists and eight digs, Avery Sanders 36 digs and Addy Wohlhuter seven digs.

MCW, now 2-2, plays Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey Tuesday in Comfrey and hosts Mankato Loyola in its Tomahawk Valley Conference opener next Thursday.
