A busy day awaits golfers Sunday for the weather-delayed 99th Northwest Iowa Amateur golf tournament at Spencer Golf and Country Club.
Friday afternoon's session was weather delayed for most of the afternoon before golfers were sent back out at 7:15 p.m. to play as many holes as possible before dark. And then the start of play Saturday was delayed by fog.
The weather did eventually clear Saturday, which led to some low scores.
Jackson native Brett Benson, now from Bird Island, leads the golfers with local connections as he is at one-over 145 on rounds of 75 and 70. He's tied for 37th place in what started as a field of 384 golfers.
Austin Reitz (Orange City), who set the Jackson Golf Club course record last month, is tied for 60th place after shooting a first-round four-over 75. He'll play his second round Sunday morning.
Connor Anderson (Welcome) is at +11 (75-80 - 155), Austin Olson (Jackson) at +13 (79-78 - 157) and Don Wachal (Jackson) at +34 (88-90 - 178).
Two golfers share the lead at 11-under. Joe Hunter (Altoona, Iowa) has shot rounds of 67 and 66 for a 133 total, while Jon Brown (Adel, Iowa) carded a first-round 63.
Golfers were on the course early Sunday morning to complete their second round. It's anticipated that flight play can start around 10:30 a.m., with the championship flight teeing off first. It's hoped the championship flight can play a total of 63 holes.
