Schmidt 19th, Benson 21st at Spencer tourney

Recent Martin County West graduate Hunter Schmidt finished in a tie for 19^th place at the Northwest Amateur golf tournament that concluded Sunday at Spener Golf and Country Club.

Schmidt, from Dunnell, carded a 72-hole total of two-under par 286. He had rounds of 70, 71, 75 and 70.

Jackson County Central graduate Brett Benson, the 2023 champion, tied for 21^st with an even-par 288 (65-73-77-73).

Schmidt will be attending MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, Kan. and playing golf for the Pioneers this fall. Benson is Superintendent at Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial.

Dennis Bull of Norwalk, Iowa was fjrst with a 13-under 275 (68-66-72-69). Mason Weeks of Spirit Lake was one shot back at 12-under 276 (68-69-70-69).

Brock Lutterman of Fairmont finished 12^th in the fifth flight with a 54-hole total of 230 (74-76-80) and Connor Anderson of Welcome was fifth in the sixth flight with 228 (72-79-77).
