Brett Benson, formerly of Jackson and now from Bird Island, made Sunday’s Championship Flight of the 100th Northwest Amateur Golf Tournament at Spencer Golf and Country Club. A total of 384 golfers began qualifying in the 72-hole tournament on Thursday.
Benson had rounds of 70 and 71 for a 36-hole total of three-under 141. He was scheduled to start at 7:20 this morning. Rain, including possible thunderstorms, is in the forecast throughout the day.
The tournament leader is J.D. Anderson of Johnston, Iowa, who shot rounds of 62 and 65 for a 17-under 127 total.
Playing in the Fourth Flight will be Jerrod Hansen of Lakefield (73-78 – 151) and Connor Anderson of Armstrong, formerly of Welcome (76-75 – 151). There are 16 golfers in that tightly bunched flight with seven qualifying with 150 and nine qualifying at 151.
Hunter Schmidt of Dunnell (73-80 – 153) is in the Sixth Flight.
Two Jackson golfers missed the cut, Austin Olson (77-84 – 161) and Jack Brinkman (80-81 – 161).
Don Wachal of Jackson (89-103 – 192) placed 64th of 78 golfers in the Senior 2 (Ages 60+) Division.
