Three local golfers carded a three-over par 75 Thursday on the first day of the 99th Northwest Iowa Amateur golf tournament.
Jackson native Brett Benson, now living in Bird Island; Jerrod Hansen of Lakefield and Connor Anderson of Welcome each came in with a first-round 75 at Spencer Golf and Country Club.
They are among 11 golfers at three-over, eight shots behind leader Joe Hunter of Altoona, Iowa, who shot five-under 67.
Two other Jackson golfers played their first round Thursday.
Austin Olson carded a 79 and Don Wachal shot an 88.
There are a total of 384 golfers entered in the tournament, of which 256 played their first round Thursday.
Among those playing on Friday will be Jackson Golf Club course-record holder Austin Reitz of Orange City, who starts at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
