Jackson County Central graduate Gavin Jacobsen made his debut with the St. Cloud Rox of the Northwoods League Wednesday night at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud. He pitched three innings of shutout relief for the Rox in a 9-5 loss to the Duluth Huskies.
Jacobsen entered the game in the seventh inning and retired the Huskies in order on a a groundout to third followed by two strikeouts.
After a leadoff walk in the eighth, Jacobsen set down the next three batters, the final two on strikeouts.
Duluth loaded the bases in the ninth on a double and a pair of walks, but Gavin got out of the inning without allowing a run, fanning two more Huskies.
In his three innings, Jacobsen gave up no runs on one hit, walked two and struck out six. For his efforts, Gavin was named St. Cloud’s Star of the Game:
The Rox continue the four-game series by hosting Duluth again Thursday and the teams then play in Duluth on Friday. They opened the series in Duluth on Tuesday.
St. Cloud plays in Bismarck Saturday and Sunday and will be in Willmar on Monday.
