Here’s a few Jackson County Central football tidbits. We’ll have more on the game in a separate newsletter on Monday.
Roman Voss saw his first game action of the season Saturday night and immediately made an impact in the Huskies’ 49-6 win over Blue Earth Area.
Voss carried the ball twice for 12 yards and JCC’s first touchdown, from four yards out. He caught two passes for 57 yards including a 44-yard TD pass from Brenan Runge.
“It was amazing being out there with the guys,” the sophomore said. “Having the camaraderie with everyone is great. It was surreal. It was a great moment.”
If you didn’t know that Runge was the Huskies’ QB2, it would be difficult to tell by watching his performance, either this season or when he and Voss reversed roles last year.
On Saturday, Runge was 7-for-9 passing for 194 yards and three touchdowns. For the season he’s 30-47 for 453 yards (15.1 per completion) and eight TDs.
In 2022 Runge was 14-29 passing for 251 yards and five touchdowns, four of which went to Voss.
“It’s amazing having a backup quarterback as good as he is,” Voss said, “You don’t really see that anywhere else. Honestly, it’s fun for me to go out there and play wide receiver and just make a play. He gives me a great ball.”
The Huskies are 3-0 after the win over a Buccaneers’ team that all of the JCC players and coaches agree is much better than a 0-3 record would tell you.
“Watching them on film, we came in here thinking they’re a legit team,” Voss commented. “We thought they should have been 2-0 so were taking them seriously and we handed it to them. It should only ramp up from here.”
Jackson County Central does face another 0-3 team on Friday it goes on the road to face LeSueur-Henderson.
