It seems as if nothing is normal these days.
During most high school baseball seasons in Minnesota, a nonconference game on a Friday the night after a conference game on the road would be a recipe for a sloppy game with both teams scoring in double figures.
Friday at Wacker Field, both Jackson County Central and Martin County West got some good pitching performances and made some nice plays in the field.
The Huskies would prevail 4-1 at Wacker Field to even their record at 4-4. The Mavericks are 4-7.
"We had a rough night at Luverne," said JCC coach Mike Wierson, whose teams had lost to the Cardinals 10-0 and 11-5 the previous night.
"It was a big emphasis on just being focused and making plays," he said. "It made a huge difference in the game. We had two big relays where we got outs. In a close game, those could have extended some innings and made some of the work a little harder."
Keenan Ambrose pitched the first five innings for Jackson County Central. Logan Butzon and Trace Michelson each pitched one inning.
Kain Sanders went five innings and took the loss for the Mavericks. Riley Kascht finished up.
Gavin Jacobsen had two hits for JCC, both doubles. Leighton Polz also had two hits. Each had an RBI. Payton Handevidt picked up an RBI on a groundout.
Jacob Fiala had two hits for MCW. Sanders had an RBI.
Jackson County Central hosts Windom Tuesday. Martin County West entertains Nicollet Thursday.
