Martin County West graduate Katie Lange will compete for a spot in the U.S. Olympic Wrestling Trials Friday and Saturday at the Bryce Jordan Center at Penn State University in State College, Pa.
Lange, representing the Minnesota Storm, is seeded third at 62 kilograms for the Challenge Tournament.
NBC Sports will broadcast live on USA Network and will stream coverage on Peacock, NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app.
Each weight class at the Trials starts with a Challenge Tournament involving anywhere from 8-11 wrestlers. There are nine wrestlers in the Challenge Tournament at Lange’s weight.
Two wrestlers will advance to the Challenge Tournament semifinals, where they will meet a wrestler who has received a bye to that point.
Those four wrestlers will compete for a spot in Saturday's best-of-three finals.
Lange qualified for the Trials by placing second at the Bill Farrell Memorial International at the New York Athletic Club in New York City in November.
Lange took an Olympic year away from Augsburg University after winning the 143-pound title at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships in March of 2023. She has been training at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
Katie is the daughter of Lisa and Kevin Lange of Sherburn. Kevin was the Class A 160-pound state champion for Martin County West in 1989.
The Olympic trials winner will wrestle at the World Olympic Games Qualifier that starts May 9 in Istanbul, Turkey. The top three place winners at that qualifier will compete at the Paris Olympics.
The Olympics open on July 26, with the wrestling competition running from Aug. 5-11.
