Bulls edge Pirates; will face St. Joseph next Sunday
For the second straight year and the 14th time in team history, the Jackson Bulls are heading to the state Class C amateur baseball tournament.
Jackson scored a run in the eighth inning to edge Windom 6-5 at Wacker Field Sunday in Game 3 of the Region 13C third place series.
That puts the Bulls in the state tournament, where they will play the St. Joseph Joes at 1:30 p.m. next Sunday (Aug. 18) at the Mini-Met in Jordan. The Joes play in the Sauk Valley West League.
The winner of that game advances to the second round to play the Buffalo Bulldogs the following weekend. The schedule for the second round has not been finalized.
Evan Olesen went the distance on the mound in Sunday’s victory over Windom. He allowed 12 hits, walked two and struck out seven. He also had two hits at the plate including a double and two runs batted in.
Seth Busch had two hits with a triple and a double; Carter Snyder had two hits including a double and an RBI; and Andy Wolf had two hits.
Also Sunday, Fairmont won Game 3 in the region championship series, beating Luverne 11-6 in 12 innings.
Region teams drafted two more players for the state tournament and the Bulls added a pair of Worthington Cubs, Blake Ahrenstorff, and Triston Sauerbrei.
